Homework and behaviour policies

You may download the centre's  behaviour for successful learning guidelines (PDF 153KB).

All students who attend the Saturday School of Community Languages are expected to behave in a respectful, responsible and safe manner at all times.

As outlined in our whole school Homework Policy (PDF 125KB), homework is an important part of your learning.

All staff at the St George GHS centre support and encourage all students completing homework as a means of extending student learning outcomes. The time set for work at home may include activities which involve the use of a dictionary to prepare for new vocabulary to be used in the classroom the following week or for the completion of classwork, depending on the stage of the student learning. At the same time it is noted by staff that some students may have part-time work or home duties which may impede on their ability to complete work at home satisfactorily.

At the senior level homework may involve summarising in either the target language or English, completing a journal each week or completing one or two writing tasks, taking no more than one to one and a half hours in total. It may also include activities where students are extended and challenged to prepare for a speaking/listening task.

At the junior level homework may involve the completion of work begun in class and may include an extension activity for gifted and talented students or a project that is based on use of ICT where a draft is prepared in class and the final product is produced at a later date.

All teachers value the support of parents/caregivers and welcome any comment regarding the inability to complete the homework. This may be communicated to a centre executive member either via a phone call or a hand written note of explanation. Where necessary an "N" Warning letter may be issued to a student as a measure of unsatisfactory participation or completion of work set for completion.
