Welcome to the Secondary College Languages, formerly Saturday School of Community Languages, the leading provider of face-to-face languages education in NSW.
We are a unique and dynamic college, established in 1978 to provide a pathway for students to maintain education in their mother tongue when that language is not available for study at their own school. We offer 25 languages to students in Years 5-12 from public schools and other educational providers.
Across our 14 campuses we provide diverse and vibrant learning environments where every student connects linguistically and culturally. Our students are motivated to grow their intercultural understanding and achieve excellence in their language learning.
Our college has a history of outstanding academic results, with 70% of our students achieving in the top two bands for the Higher School Certificate. Every year approximately 20 students are awarded First In Course and around 80 students are recognised as Top Achievers, placing in the top 5 in the state.
Staff, students and parents work in partnership to ensure that the languages education received at our college is of exceptional quality. Our passionate teachers are all department-qualified and participate in extensive professional learning that keeps them at the forefront of languages pedagogy.
The benefits of learning mother tongues are extensive and long-lasting. In the words of UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay – “By bringing their speakers closer together, by allowing them to flourish in a shared context, mother tongues generate social inclusion, innovation and imagination. They also breathe life into cultural diversity and serve as instruments of peace."
